wild goose chases, and the reasons for them.

On a Saturday.
What do we do?
Movie? Boring!
Park? Seen it!
Let's go:

Our favorite.
This time we were lucky and had a map handy, usually we don't.
Where will we end up?
It's raining, it's pouring, it's muddy and wet!
But, even those things:

We stop off at destinations:

Watch airplanes take off.
Hunt for:

What do we find?

A pot of gold?
Well, no... things like:
abandoned:

-and-

But, most important, reasons to:

We love Saturdays together, huddled under the roof of our car.
Chatting and exploring.
Twisting and turning. (down mysterious muddy pathways!)
Just being us.
And that is the greatest treasure of all.
Being together.

Gosh those were the days!! My family used to do that when I was a kid. Go for a drive just to drive and explore. How fun!

Jacob is going on 15 and we still enjoy those things. We took the back way today to an antique/junque barn. Then we stopped at a used album shop and spent hours and hours searching through the racks - it was a priceless afternoon. ~ Robyn

One of my favorite places to be...in the car...with my little family...with no particular place to go :) LOVED this post! And then Sunday comes, and it's time to shave :o

We used to go on random drives. We haven't done that in a while. I think we'll have to go on some drives...once it greens up a bit.

How do you decide where to go?

Have you ever heard of letterboxing? I think it seems like something you & your boys would love! It's a hobby that's like a scavenger hunt--you can find out more at www.atlasquest.com or www.letterboxing.org. The short version is that you find clues to boxes on those websites, then you follow the clues, and when you find the box, there is a logbook & a stamp inside. You also need your own individual logbooks & stamps (carving your own is fun, but not necessary). once you find the box, you stamp your image into the box's logbook & stamp the box's stamp into your logbook. Then you put all contents back in their box & put it exactly where you found it so the next person can locate it! It is really a TON of fun, I think your little explorers would love the hunt!!!

I look forward to those days when my family is a bit bigger, a bit older-- and we can do things like this. I love the idea of getting lost, or being a tourist in my own town...

P.S. I'm glad you're BACK, em.

I see that you haven't posted in quite a while, but this is the first time I've stumbled across your blog. I love it. You seem so creative and your boys are adorable. I hope to use your recipe to make some of those lollipops when I can find a candy thermometer and get the nerve to let the littles have free reign in the kitchen for a lollipop session.
